Abstract :
In January 1987, after two years of technical tests and experimental transmission the decision was taken to recommend a slightly modified version of the BBC system to be used for multichannel television sound transmissions in the Nordic countries. This recommendation was followed by the adoption of `NICAM 728´ by the EBU in April of the same year. This specification has subsequently become a draft CCIR recommendation. The first regular services with the NICAM 728 system started in Finland on January 8, 1988 followed by the start of the Swedish Network on February 27. Later the same year in October 1988 a new commercial Danish television network (TV2) started with all their transmitters broadcasting NICAM 728 stereo sound
