Abstract :
Line-of-sight microwave signals provide continuous monitoring of the atmosphere and reveal several interesting features. Scintillation analysis of LOS records at the two stations of Nellore and Penukonda show departures in the behavioural pattern of the scintillation index during the daytime indicating a climatic effect on microwave signal propagation. The percentage of occurrence of scintillation indices shows that around 50 percent values are below SI = 28 percent for the Gooty-Penukonda link, while in contrast 50 percent of the values are above SI = 45 percent for the Chittedu-Nellore link. This is attributed to the large variation in humidity existing over the coastal region as is evident from the available meteorological data
