Abstract :
A novel correlation-based fingerprint matching method is present. Traditional correlation methods have to calculate the correlation over all possible rotations to determine the rotation angle between the template and query fingerprint image when this angle is unknown. In this paper we achieve the alignment by Fourier-Mellin transform (FMT), which can quickly align two images without the time-consuming test, and use the band-limited phase-only correlation (BLPOC) method to match two aligned images. The BLPOC method is more robust to the noise and can provide a sharper peak to distinguish between the genuine and impostor matching than the original phase-only correlation (POC). The experimental results on FVC2002 fingerprint databases show that the proposed algorithm is effective
