Abstract :
Joint power control and optimal beamforming (JPCOB) algorithms have been proposed in the literature as promising solutions to increase the capacity of wireless multimedia networks. They also provides minimum total transmission power but achieving a certain quality of service (QoS) at each mobile. A new version of such a JPCOB technique was developed in a previous work, whose major innovation is the capacity of all the cell antennas to serve the mobiles cooperatively. For doing that, a new topology of the cell where the antennas are grouped in arrays and distributed around the coverage area is proposed. We denote these arrays as bases stations (BS), and the whole structure as multinode B. In this paper, we present a wide comparison between this new topology and the conventional one (sectorized node B placed in the center of the cell). Realistic scenarios have been simulated and from the results some interesting conclusions are given: for 3 BS´s both topologies exhibits similar behavior, whereas for 2 BS´s multinode B outperforms centered node B.
