  • Abstract
We present a continuous size-dependent particle separator based on the virtual pillars induced by negative dielectrophoretic (DEP) force on a planar spot electrode array for separation of multi-sized particles. The present particle separator eliminates particle clogging in microchannel using virtual barriers. Also, the present particle separator easily changes separable particle sizes by adjusting applied voltage. Experimental study verifies the size-dependent particle separation capability for 6, 8, 10, and 12 mum-diameter polystyrene beads and the voltage-tuning separation by adjusting applied voltages.
