Abstract
The propagation aspects of fixed service applications within the CCIR are covered by Reports 338 (Line-of-Sight), 238 (Trans-Horizon) and the associated Questions and Recommendations. However, in this paper it is proposed to cover the line-of-sight applications only. The work of Study Group 5 in the line-of-sight area has resulted in great improvement to Report 338. The version produced at the final meeting of the 1986-1990 study period is more readable, is better laid out and more closely addresses the problems the severity of multipath fading that will be of great importance to the third world user. Much credit goes to those involved in the behind the scenes work of the various testing groups associated with IWP 5/2, without which such rapid progress would not have been possible
