Abstract :
The authors describe the design philosophy and system concept for the computerized supervision equipment (DRO) and the benefits as to operation and economy expected from the implementation of the DRO system at Jutland Telephone, Denmark. The DRO is one of the elements in a superior integrated operation and maintenance communications system for exchanges, transmission, power and cooling plants, cables, etc. at Jutland Telephone. One basic philosophy was that the primary function of the equipment should be continuous, automatic battery management. Calculations show that approximately 70% of the total annual costs may be saved for servicing of batteries when DRO has been fully implemented. Further benefits lie in a considerably increased operational reliability of the batteries and in the fact that a large amount of operating information can be collected
