Abstract :
The author demonstrates that the OSI security management has a role within military networks, since they usually employ a large number and variety of security mechanisms. OSI security management is designed to provide a common method for managing OSI security mechanisms. OSI Management generally is intended to readily facilitate private management extensions to the standards by, wherever possible, separating the information to be communicated from the protocol itself. This point is as true for security management as it is for configuration or fault management. The flexibility of an object oriented management methodology means that the military can adopt standard protocols and indeed standard managed objects, which can be turned into specific military managed objects by simply adding new attributes or modifying existing attributes. In order that military requirements are addressed, the military however must be prepared to contribute to the standardization process
