Abstract :
Insulators are exposed to contamination which sometimes results in the formation of excess ions in the atmosphere; this may be due to chemical processes or combustion, or it may be due to the close proximity of corona discharges. Here, the author presents a brief account of preliminary experimental results obtained from work on the influence upon surface discharges of ions in the surrounding medium
