Abstract
The steady state performance of both the IG (induction generator) and the DOIG (double output IG) employed in a VCSF (variable speed constant frequency) WECS (wind energy conversion system) is investigated experimentally. The presence of a DC link converter in the rotor circuit causes harmonic currents in both rotor and stator which produce harmonic torques and increase the machine losses. The authors present a new simplified method of calculating torque pulsations and harmonic copper losses. The validity of this method is confirmed. Also, the effect of some parameter variations on the torque pulsations and copper losses is given
