Abstract :
This article presents a conception of a reconfigurable cellular robot series named AMOEBA robots. Constructed with a large number of uniform components and controlled by an artificial neural-network based control system, this kind of robot can be reconfigured to implement appropriate moving mode by learning and evolving to adjust to different environments. Theoretically, it can realize most sorts of moving forms except for flight. Furthermore, this sort of robot can manage its hardware problems, namely it has a capacity for fault tolerance, which provides remarkable adaptive ability.
