Abstract
As the duration of a large project is long, its consumption is significant. In order to complete the project efficiently, the project duration and the resources should be scheduled. During the project execution, if more resources are allocated, the make-span of an activity may be compressed. Thus, the project cost is a function of activity duration through the link of resources. Aimed at the time/cost tradeoff of human resources in a large engineering project, a linear programming model is introduced. A heuristic genetic algorithm is proposed based on queuing theory, where queuing theory is used to process resource constraint. Because of the particularity of the problem, specific encoding scheme, crossover and mutation operators are designed. Illustrative example shows the validity of the methods.
