Abstract
A discussion is given on research issues associated with intelligent autonomous vehicles (mobile robotics). A wide range of special purpose and generic autonomous guided vehicles (AGV) research programmes have been initiated. Common to all the major research programmes are the central intelligent tasks of: sensor management, multi-sensor data fusion and machine perception; goal specification and planning; and navigation, guidance and motion control. The author outlines each of these tasks
