Title :
Motion compensated field rate conversion

Abstract :
Describes experimental real time hardware built to increase the field rate of a television display in order to reduce the large area flicker. This work was carried out in conjunction with the BBC as part of the EUREKA high definition television project. High definition television systems are designed to provide high quality pictures on large, bright wide screen displays. Under these conditions the large area flicker would become objectionable if the normal 50 Hz field rate was used. Increasing the field rate by a factor of two offers the simplest means of providing the desired picture quality
