  • Abstract
With reference to the design of an electrically small loop antenna using superconducting components, the authors attempt to answer the following questions: can the matching unit be made smaller because it is many times bigger than the antenna in some examples? High efficiency is often of secondary importance to bandwidth and noise constraints, what will be the dimensions and the electromagnetic properties of the cryogenic apparatus? How do the system requirements constrain the superconductivity specification? In some systems will partial deployment of superconducting components be advantageous? Some ongoing practical work on planar superconducting components is mentioned to illustrate specific points
