Abstract :
The distribution network that carries the energy for all homes and buildings is providing keen competition to more established communications services such as cable networks and distribution line services including ADSL and VDSL. However the increase of BPL services over the low voltage distribution network leads to potential for radio interference in the short wave band. This consequently has effects on established radio services such as emergency services and military communications. The key electromagnetic compatibility parameter that provides an indicative assessment of interference amongst a series of parameters is the regression rate of the signal radiated from the power cable and will potentially provide an insight into interference modes. The detailed experimental programme will cover the experimental methodology together with the results will be presented and compared with established standards on regression of signals in this frequency band.
