Abstract
Describes a design technique for the direct optimisation of distributed post-detection filters, realised in microstrip, for multi-gigabit optical receivers. The authors consider initially ideal, lossless transmission line structures before extending the concept to practical microstrip structures. Microstrip is an appropriate medium for implementation since it is a mature, well-understood technology that allows easy integration of the filter with the other receiver signal processing operations via hybrid structures
