Abstract :
The work of the information scientist centres on the gathering, indexing, analysis, interpretation and communication of value added information, and extends into the design, evaluation and management of information retrieval and knowledge-based systems. Successful information provision depends on four factors: quality; accuracy; timing and technology. The paper concentrates on technology, and, in particular, how new technologies impact on the work of the information scientist, making the management of information in an organisational context easier. It also explores the potential impact of new technologies, particularly developments in hypertext and hypermedia, on information science research and practice
