Abstract
In this paper , the feasibility of a super power coaxial gyrotron at 5 MW, 170 GHz, operating in the TE44,44 mode is presented as a small step towards a big leap from 2MW to 5 MW power levels. Gyrotrons are high power microwave sources widely employed for electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) of plasmas, and in other industrial and scientific applications. Such a realization will drastically reduce the number of gyrotrons operating in tandem in Tokamak installations.
