Abstract
A novel approach to the vehicle velocity estimation for the antilock brake system (ABS) is proposed. To be cost effective, the estimation is solely based on the wheel velocity measurements without any additional information on the vehicle acceleration. This is made possible by employing an adaptive nonlinear filter method, which proves to be simple and effective. Simulation results using field-testing data show that an accurate and smooth estimation for the vehicle velocity is achieved and this method is practically feasible
