Abstract :
High-voltage PLC communications need redefinition of its roles in packet-switching networks of power utilities. The paper presents a classification of data and services of the power system communications and proposes some adjustments in the TCP/IP reference model to ensure reliable incorporation of PLC links in the packet-oriented power-utility communication systems. A brief description of high-voltage PLC systems is given with emphasis on their role in current power utility communications. The research needs to answer how TCP operates in the network containing PLC links.
