Abstract
In 1985 the author was asked to give a talk to a local scientific society and chose the topic `Satellite Communications´ because he was interested in it himself. Since then it has been repeated, with only small changes, to undergraduate and postgraduate audiences within King´s College, as part of public relations for the Communications Research Group. The author believes talks of this kind could be very popular in schools and colleges because the audience mostly has an adequate basis of scientific knowledge and of relevant everyday experience from which to catch their interest as potential students and workers in the `satellite´ community. The author gives a plan of the talk and details the major contents of the talk
