The management of manufacturing increasingly makes use of information technology, and concomitantly the role of human factors has grown. From the perspective of managing engineering technology, the author identifies four of the trends currently being introduced into British Industry: total quality, the distributed enterprise, communications and the software engineered manufacturing organisation
