    Ampex introduced the first commercially practical video tape recorder in 1956. The intervening years have produced a variety of video tape formats for the archivist. Regardless of the particular format to be archived, the manner in which the tape is wound before storage, and the environment in which it is stored, remain the two key factors to successful archiving.
