    Research in pulsed hollow cathode discharges in the last few years has led to the development of a type of flash X-ray source based on a plasma diode with a hollow cathode geometry operating at low pressure. The physics of the pulsed hollow cathode discharge are described and the properties of the X-ray source are presented
