Abstract
The author is proposing an alternative layer 1 user-network and terminal interface to basic ISDN at the T, S, and S/T reference points, based on the 2B1Q 2-wire interface defined in CCITT rec. G.961, app.II. In reality it is the extension of the U transmission interface being standardised for the USA and now being adopted for other major networks, presented to the user via the ordinary telephone master socket. He also lists several technical and commercial advantages
