Abstract :
The growing demand of high bandwidth services and applications such as Triple-Play arc motivating the requirement to integrate current internet with mobile networks. In emerging markets such as India, there are remote areas where wired access to internet services is difficult. The IEEE 802.16x is an attractive broadband wireless service for such emerging market scenarios. This paper discusses a network system architecture in which the 802.16e operating in PMP mode is used for last mile access. Some of the triple-play applications being investigated in this paper include e-Education and Infotainment. A simulation study of the delivery of Triple-Play service over 802.16e is reported in this paper. The performance evaluation for a typical emerging market scenario indicates that 6-8 simultaneous video sessions can be supported for over an 802.16e network operating in point- to-multi point mode of operation.
