Remote control of air break isolators and the application of automatic sectionalisers on overhead lines

As part of the continuing search for means of improving supply security and, in the event of fault, supply restoration times, trials are currently taking place using new types of equipment for fault sectionalising and remote control on overhead networks in Midlands Electricity. Two separate sections of network have been chosen, one for the application of remotely operated air break isolators using an extension of the UHF radio telecontrol system and one in which auto sectionalising links, sometimes called smart fuses have been installed
