Abstract
The author describes that the use of digital modulation for HDTV broadcasting reduces the protection-ratio requirement sufficiently to permit common-frequency operation. This enables more programmes to be broadcast to each country within a given band, compared with the use of analogue modulation, while offering greater flexibility for development
