Provides an overview of developments in network management, as they apply to security in particular. The author concentrates on efforts in the standards world, particularly OSI, where the management structure is now quite well-defined, and initial indications of the directions for security management are now emerging. Work is also proceeding in the related area of ODP (Open Distributed Processing), but relatively little progress has been made
