Abstract
The foundation of any communication system is the physical method by which information is to be distributed around the network. In the Esprit home systems project, choice of transmission media and method of use was preceded by a detailed evaluation of both user and manufacturer requirements. Taking these into consideration it was concluded that there is a need to provide several basic network services within the home system
