Abstract :
A synthesis procedure based on the principles of geometrical optics has been applied to the design of a dual-shaped dual-reflector antenna used to transform the output of a gyrotron operating in a whispering-gallery mode to a Gaussian free-space beam. The new design is anticipated to improve the output-beam characteristics of previous antenna configurations in which the power distribution could be manipulated in only one dimension across the beam. This resulted in relatively poor free-space propagation characteristics and reduced coupling efficiency into guided wave systems.<>
