Using SCADA for energy management and waste detection [paper industry]

In the paper making process the greatest consumption of energy occurs during drying of the continuous wet web by evaporation. To facilitate humid air removal the entire drying section is enclosed with an insulated hood from which air is continuously removed by a series of exhaust fans. To improve energy efficiency a control system senses fans. To improve energy efficiency a control system senses exhaust air humidity and controls this variable to a present value. The SCADA system is also used to assemble the field instrumentation and process values for a user defined time period
