Abstract :
It is suggested that coaxial connectors are widely misused and their electrical and mechanical performance taken for granted. Coaxial connectors are often the most mistreated part of a measurement system. The author deals with the following topics associated with the use of coaxial connectors: connector repeatability; repeatability assessment; standard specifications for coaxial connectors; interface dimensions and gauging; and connector cleaning. It is recommended that all instruments fitted with connectors submitted for calibration should be adequately tested to ensure compliance to their mechanical specifications. All terminations mismatches, inter-series connectors and adaptors, etc., should also be tested. Calibration work should not be commenced if a connector is found to be outside the mechanical compliance limits.<>
