Abstract :
The design and testing of a high-performance microstrip array with a 5% bandwidth, an aperture efficiency of 58%, and a boresight crosspolar isolation of 54 dB operating around 12.6 GHz are presented. This design is compatible with mass-production printed circuit techniques for low cost. The array consists of 256 microstrip subarrays, arranged in a triangular grid. Each subarray consists of five rectangular microstrip patch radiators arranged in a cross configuration. The center patch of the cross is fed using aperture coupling, while the other four patches are excited parasitically from the fringing fields of the center patch. The subarrays are fed from an isolated microstrip corporate feed network.<>
