Abstract :
The authors examine the use of a maximum likelihood estimator for the six geophysical parameters, namely, the significant wave height, height of the satellite above the sea surface, the mean value of the backscattered power, the skewness of the sea, the cross skewness of the sea surface, and the angle at which the satellite is off-nadir, which are associated with satellite radar altimetry
