Abstract
This paper presents an identification method for the power consumption in real time during extrusion. The method is based on taking real data from a sensor at the plant. The sensor is attached to three pumps that feed the power to the extrusion press. The study is mainly concentrated on the signature regions. A novel algorithm will be developed using numerical methods to extract some features from the power consumption cycle that the press needs to extrude one billet. Furthermore, analysis of these features is used to develop a method to diagnose the on-line condition of the extrusion process.
