Abstract :
Existing EIT systems provide a non-invasive method for assessing the fractional change in resistivity in fairly well defined regions of interest within the perimeter of the measurement electrodes. It should therefore be possible to obtain estimates of parameters of clinical importance such as cardiac output, and to be sure that they are kept separate from associated effects of, for example, pulmonary perfusion. The performance of one existing system is described and some prospects are surveyed
