Abstract
This paper studies fault-tolerant hierarchical (Pyramid) production lines. Gigabit Ethernet is used to implement machines´ networks (workcells) as well as inter-controllers´ and supervisor connections in a Networked Control System (NCS) fashion. Simulation analysis for 2 and 3-machine production lines with a supervisory node are done using OPNET. Appropriate supervisor computational power capabilities to run the complete system in the most critical conditions, are obtained at higher-than-nominal speeds.
