Abstract :
A canonical radiating structure is analyzed by applying a hybrid technique. First, the equivalence principle is used to divide the original configuration into two separate problems, which are coupled by enforcing the continuity of the field. Next, the MM (method of moments) formulation is applied for solving the continuity equation on the aperture cover. Then, the standard MM matrix is augmented by either ray methods or the finite-element method, which are found to be well suited for treating the two separate problems. This procedure leads to an efficient numerical algorithm. Its application to treat array configurations appears rather straightforward, except for requiring more numerical efforts.<>
