  • Abstract
A high-efficiency integrated horn antenna has been designed for millimeter-wave applications. The design consists of a dipole antenna suspended on a dielectric membrane along the diagonal of a pyramidal cavity etched in silicon. The theoretical far-field pattern and input impedance of the dipole-fed horn antenna are calculated using full-wave analysis. The impedance and radiation patterns of a dipole-fed diagonal horn antenna were measured at microwave frequencies. It is found that a dipole feed position of 0.4 lambda and horn apertures between 1.0 lambda and 1.4 lambda yield nearly equal E- and H-plane patterns. The associated directivity for a 1.35 lambda horn aperture is 9.8 dB+or-0.2 dB. The resonant feed dipole input impedance is 55 Omega and suitable for Schottky diode and SIS detectors.<>
