Abstract :
The current medium range radio positioning equipment relies completely on its ability to maintain a constant frequency source for measuring phase angles or time of travel. Achievable accuracy depends on the stabilization of this frequency standard. The NANO-NAV System is a range-range system utilizing the Cesium Beam atomic clock (the most accurate frequency reference available), and ground wave radio transmission to provide positioning accuracy to distances of 400 miles under normal conditions. Ability to recover lane identification at sea without return to a known base is also of prime importance. The versatility of the NANO-NAV central processing unit provides a complete stand-alone system for real time navigation and positioning control.
