Abstract
Some members of the COST 230 group initiated another stereoscopic project funded by the European Community. This project, called DISTIMA (digital stereoscopic imaging and applications), started in January 1992 and will end after three years in December 1994. The project deals with the capture, coding, transmission and presentation of a two-channel digital stereoscopic system. The purpose is to perform research and development on software and hardware towards a hardware prototype of a stereoscopic system for broadcast and nonbroadcast applications. The author explains the project with emphasis on the signal processing strategy, disparity estimation and stereoscopic coding
