Abstract :
The author discusses how compression techniques can be applied to benefit production and post production in the broadcast industry. The author believes that it is in the area of storage that bit rate reduction offers distinct advantages in the broadcast studio environment. He discusses the benefits which bit rate reduction will bring to the digital VTR and also potentially to the digital disc recorder, often used side-by-side in the digital post-production suite
