Abstract
A high resolution subbottom survey was carried out at the University of N.H. ocean modeling facility at Lake Winnipesaukee, N.H. with a 3 m. compliant surface paraboloidal reflector by mounting at its focus a 12 KHz transmitter/receiver at a 1/2 m.s. pulsed mode. The records showed an accumulation of randomly scattered irregularities. The experimental data is explained by modeling the subbottom to consist of a combination of discrete and continuous impedence layers and finding its time reflection coefficient numerically for a 1/2 m.s., 12 KHz modulated input pulse. The simulated results explain adequately the observed experimental data.
