Abstract :
The origins of hypersensitivity in the Applebaum adaptive array are examined, and a solution that is free of hypersensitivity is derived. In addition, the authors illustrate graphically the relationship between signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) and steering vector pointing error for a linear array when both the classic Wiener solution and the hypersensitivity-free solution are utilized. The hypersensitivity-free solution is much more tolerant to pointing error but requires one to derive the signal eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the covariance matrix as opposed to a simple matrix inversion required by the Wiener solution.<>
