ATM implementation for the third generation mobile

This paper presents the ATM implementation requirements for third generation mobile infrastructure (FPLMTS/IMT2000, UMTS), the required mobility-specific services, and a typical implementation scenario. Initially the requirements of ATM within mobile systems are considered. This is followed by a consideration of the way in which ATM transport and control signalling protocols can be included within both 2^nd generation mobile systems (GSM) and also 3^rd generation mobile systems (UMTS and FPLMTS). Options are considered for the integration or separation of mobility management signalling with UNI and NNI signalling protocols for B-ISDN
