Abstract
A morphological analysis of a multiplicity of electric motors intended for undersea operation and a review of the influence of recent developments in magnetic materials and solid state commutation on their design and performance is presented. These developments now provide an opportunity to design submersible electric drives that are more reliable, efficient, lighter weight, and have longer endurance than those using prior technologies.
