Abstract
Optical fibres have replaced copper as the transmission bearer for all new work involving trunk and junction links between exchanges. In the local network 10% of the lines should be optical fibre by 1995. However unless there is an uptake of cabled TV and allied services by the domestic customer creating a demand for wideband distribution it is unlikely that fibre will service the domestic customer in the foreseeable future
