Abstract :
The original concept of surface field diagnostics has appeared in previous publications; however, recent developments in the detection system now enables the full potential of the technique to be realized. The new detection system employs a novel automated homodyne phase and amplitude detector operating over the frequency range 26.5-40 GHz. In addition to providing phase and amplitude information, the homodyne detector is extremely linear, and also provides a measurement dynamic range in excess of 80 dB. The scanning network probe is comprised of three sub-systems: a computer controlled probe scanning and data storage system; an RF detection system; and a miniature RF field probe
